How Starlink keeps Elite connected

By Elite High SchoolTechnology

Elite High School is connected to the internet through Starlink. Here is what satellite internet is, and how it supports learning and school life.

Elite High School is connected to the internet through Starlink satellite internet. From the day we opened in January 2013, our inquiry-based philosophy has been built on the use of modern technology to raise learner achievement, and a reliable internet connection is a big part of that today.

Starlink is a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX. Instead of relying on cables in the ground, a small dish on site connects to a network of satellites in low Earth orbit, which then link to the wider internet. Because the satellites are much closer to Earth than traditional communication satellites, the connection is fast enough for everyday browsing, research and video.

Starlink has been licensed to operate in Zimbabwe by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) since 2024.

How it supports learning at Elite

Computer Science. Elite offers Computer Science at both ZIMSEC O Level and A Level, so learners can follow it from Form 1 to Form 6. A dependable connection supports their practical work and research. See our subjects.

Research and inquiry. Our curriculum asks learners to investigate, not just memorise. Access to online reading, data and educational video helps them do that across every subject, from Geography to Business Studies.

A connected school office. The school uses Rongeka Africa for learner records, fees and WhatsApp messages to parents. A reliable connection keeps those records and messages flowing.

Using the internet well

Technology at Elite serves our values. The ELITE Way calls our learners to integrity, “even when no one is watching”, and that applies online too: the internet is a tool to be used responsibly, safely and for good.
